Our website is no stranger to profiling Jordan sneakers, in particular the several OVO collaborations that have happened in the past that continue to be high selling shoes in the market — but today, we’re focusing on Jordan Women, who’ve made several strides in creating styles, silhouettes and comfort in recent releases.
Inspired by Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief and overall badass who Jay-Z has made several references to in his music, last week Vogue and and the Jordan Brand announced the limited-edition capsule of the Air Jordan 1 to the delight of both fashionistas and sneaker heads. The motto? Celebrating defiance.
“Every Vogue editor remembers their first AWOK, the little acronym (short for Anna Wintour Okay) scrawled on each print page by our inimitable editor in chief. It is the ultimate sign of approval in this office and the wider fashion world,” Vogue stated on their page after the announcement.
To have something that is Anna Wintour-approved is, for many people, an elite level stamp of approval that is earned through sweat and tears. Re-imagining the iconic AJ1s into two colours, University Red and Sail, the soft[est]-leather shoe boasts Wintour’s signature on its tongue and AWOK on its translucent sole, as well as a key-ring zipper and and an ‘Edited by Vogue’ Nike tag. If this wasn’t enough, the Air Jordan 3 SE AWOK, which hasn’t been seen yet but is said to be in red and black colourways, will be released September 7th.
The biggest takeaway from this collaboration, and perhaps one of the most important, is that by having Anna Wintour re-imaging the AJ1, it also means that the silhouette of the shoe itself has rendered itself a quintessential piece for everyone’s closet.
