Presents: Indie Selects Vol. 5 Featuring Haze Mahdi, Caye, Quincy, Becky Hill, Yank$, Jack Bruno & More

After returning from Roots Picnic weekend, I carved out a moment of time to make my Indie Selects for this week. With summer upon us, it was only right that I crank out the sunshine filled vibes and give an inkling as to which vibes are kicking off my summer.

No stranger to our pages is UK singer-songwriter Becky Hill. She releases “Sunrise In The East.” With its elastic beats and warm, summery synths, “Sunrise In The East” was co-written by Hill with Maverick Sabre and Lost Boy and produced by ADP.  It captures a new relationship, when discovering someone on a deeper level. “We talk until the sunrise in the east, I’m hanging onto every single word that you say,” Becky sings, in her characteristically dusky voice. “Sunrise In The East” is the first taste from Becky Hill’s forthcoming debut album which she is currently working on with MNEK, MJ Cole and Two Inch Punch.

Haze Mahdi peaked my interest when a Dave East-assisted “Momentum” was sent to my submissions. The skilled emcee takes things into overdrive in the Bryan Nunez-directed clip for “Certified.” It’s audio release is just as vivid, locked and loaded with bars and bearing.

With very little industry co-signs, Charlotte native DaBaby is already posting up very large numbers and from the looks of it has North Carolina on his back! One glimpse into his music or videos and you can certainly see and hear exactly why the artist has taken off. With a definitive tone, powerful sound, bars, a melodic wave and heavy production, DaBaby (Baby Jesus) is an all around artist and demonstrates that to the fullest on his new project titled, Baby Talk 5. With standout records such as “No Love” and “For Da Baby“, the lane for an artist such as himself is wide open and vast. My absolute favorite was his track “Itch.”
