Last night, D’Angelo put on a hell of a performance on Saturday Night Live accompanied by his live band The Vanguard. D’Angelo and his band played “The Charade” and “Really Love” off of his new Black Messiah album.
His performance carried a theme in alignment with the “Black Lives Matter” movement. For his performance to “The Charade,” D’Angelo wore a hoodie in memory of Trayvon Martin while the Vanguard wore shirts that read “I Can’t Breathe,” a tribute to Eric Garner. On the studio floor laid a chalk outline of a human body, which was a tribute to Michael Brown. Check out the moving performance after the jump!
