This past weekend, Tinashe brought her energy and dance crew to perform her ‘Aquarius’ album through and through, as well as tracks from her 2013 mixtape ‘Black Water’. Put on by Ink Entertainment at Tattoo, (semi)newcomer Taya Marquis took to the stage to start off the night. With her dancers in tow, she performed singles from her EP, ‘Woman’. While the crowd originally thought she was Tinashe, baring a strikingly similar stage set and presence, Taya found her place singing tracks like “Love Again” and “Obsession” with ease. Tinashe took to the stage at 11:30PM, coming out to a screaming crowd in an adorned in a bejeweled cat mask a la Kanye West to album title track, “Aquarius”.
With a few outfit changes and an impromptu dance session to Rae Sremmurd’s “No Type”, Tinashe embodied the stage presence of a early 2000’s J. Lo, but with much more polished vocals. She took time to perform hits like the A$AP Rocky-assisted “Pretend”, ScHoolboy Q-featured (and Drake remixed) “2 On”, and the Future-featured “How Many Times”. Alongside her dancers, Tinashe put some incredible choreography to “All Hands On Deck”, as well as the Boi-1da co-produced cut “Cold Sweat”, further proving she’s a force to be reckoned with – and Boi-1da, who happened to be at the show, would certainly agree. By the end of the night, with drip pouring down her whole body, it became clear that Tinashe not only left her heart on the stage, but truly put on a show as if it was her last.
The views of our contributors are their own, and not necessarily those of Boi-1da.
