Co-founder and one third of the Beastie Boys, Adam “MCA” Yauch, died today at the age of 47. No word yet on the cause of death, but the rapper had first announced he had cancer back in 2009.
The Beastie Boys rose to fame in the 80’s with their debut album, License To Ill, which paved the way for other cross-over artists. The group released their most recent album, Hot Sauce Committee, Pt.2 and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It’s clear in his death, that Beastie Boys have had an effect on artists outside of the hip-hop genre as well.
